FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GÖPEL electronic supports Boundary Scan for Embedded Mixed Signal Test

GÖPEL electronic, world-class vendor of JTAG/Boundary Scan systems compliant to IEEE Standard family 1149.x, has opened the arena of Embedded Mixed Signal Test for Boundary Scan applications, in particular by introducing application support for National Semiconductor’s SCANSTA476.
The new solution is based on an extension of the standard software CASCON GALAXY, enabling the combination of digital tests according to IEEE Std. 1149.1 with multi-point analog voltage measurements and succeeding value processing within one test program.

“National Semiconductors' innovative device for analog voltage monitoring enables the implementation of Embedded Mixed Signal Tests based on a standardized IEEE 1149.1 infrastructure“, says Heiko Ehrenberg, Managing Director of the GÖPEL electronic's US branch GOEPEL Electronics LLC. “Now – with native support for the SCANSTA476 implemented in our Integrated Development Environment CASCON GALAXY® – users can benefit from a multitude of new test applications utilizing a consistent and high-performance platform”.

“By incorporating support of the SCANSTA476 into the CASCON environment, GÖPEL electronic has greatly simplified the task of collecting Analog test data using IEEE1149.1 tools”, said Ken Filliter, marketing manager in National Semiconductor’s Interface division.

SCANSTA476 provides eight measurement channels, multiplexed onto a 12bit ADC, and can be fully controlled via an IEEE 1149.1 interface. Thus, analog measurement values can be transported by means of the same medium as digital test vectors or programming vectors for FLASH and PLD. In terms of software support for the SCANSTA476, the Boundary Scan programming language CASLAN, which is an integral part of every CASCON GALAXY edition, has been extended with Mixed Signal instructions. The user benefits by being able to implement unrestricted interactions between all available resources, and to directly process and analyse measured values. Furthermore, preconfigured CASLAN scripts allow an interactive channel selection per menu. Existing system installations can utilize these new features without additional tools. The implemented CASCON Application Programming Interface (CAPI) functions also enable external control and processing of analog or mixed-signal data per standard programming languages such as C++, Visual Basic etc. or program packages such as NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, Agilent VEE etc.

This flexible solution enables numerous interesting applications, such as the recording and on-board storage of analog parameters for calibration, online monitoring of vital voltages, or remote system diagnostics. Such test procedures utilizing the SCANSTA476 can be freely combined in CASCON GALAXY with other operations based on IEEE Standards 1149.1, 1149.4, 1149.6, or 1532 within the frame of a batch sequence.

GÖPEL electronic, headquartered in Jena/Germany has been a world-class vendor of Boundary Scan/IEEE 1149.x solutions for nearly 15 years. The company employs about 110 people and maintains support and sales offices in Germany, the United States and France. For the continuous support of some thousand system installations, more than 250 additional specialists ensure local and on-site support through a worldwide service and distribution network.
