VarioCore enabled I/O modules are unique in the world of board and system level Automated Test Equipment (ATE) in that they are instruments that are reconfigurable at run-time to support a wide variety of I/O functionality. VarioCore modules can be adapted to many test, verification, and programming applications, including JTAG/Boundary Scan Test, Functional Test and Gang test, whereas competitive products provide a limited, fixed feature set for Boundary Scan connectivity tests only. VarioCore is Intellectual Property (IP) based instrumentation, supporting static and dynamic signal processing, reconfigurable with off-the-shelf and third-party / customer-designed IP.

The opportunity to directly reconfigure and control IP based module functionality from an integrated software environment provides a new level of flexibility. For example, a digital VarioCore module can support a wide variety of static and dynamic test, verification, and programming applications, synchronized with Boundary Scan or stand alone, in a single run. This enables at-speed test, high speed programming of serial and parallel EEPROM devices (e.g. FLASH), and even serial and parallel interface testing at functional speed. In the past, such an array of tester capabilities could only be accomplished with multiple hardware modules, if at all.
